Job Summary
The Librarian/Chief Librarian is responsible for the overall management and operation of the University Library. This includes planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating library services to support the teaching, research, and administrative functions of the University.
Key Responsibilities
- Library Management and Leadership.
- Develops and implements the library’s strategic plan in alignment with the University’s mission and goals.
- Oversees the budgeting, staffing, and resource allocation for the library.
- Ensures the efficient and effective operation of all library services, including circulation, reference, interlibrary loan, and digital resources.
- Provides leadership and mentorship to library staff.
- Collection Development and Management.
- Develops and implements collection development policies and procedures.
- Selects, acquires, and manages the library’s print and electronic collections to support the curriculum and research needs of the University community.
- Ensures the preservation and conservation of the library’s collections.
- Information Technology and Digital Services
- Oversees the development and implementation of the library’s technology infrastructure.
- Manages the library’s website and online resources.
- Promotes the use of technology to enhance library services and user experience.
- Stays current with emerging technologies and their applications in libraries.
- User Services.
- Develops and implements programs to promote library services and resources to the University community.
- Provides effective and efficient reference and information services to users.
- Collaborates with faculty and students to support their research and teaching needs.
- Assesses user needs and satisfaction and makes necessary adjustments to library services.
- Library Facilities and Operations.
- Oversees the physical facilities and operations of the library, including sace planning, equipment maintenance, and security.
- Ensures a safe and welcoming environment for library users.
- Develops and implements library policies and procedures.
Qualifications and Experience
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent.
- Advanced degree in a relevant subject area preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in academic library management.
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills.
- Strong knowledge of library automation systems and technologies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.
Required Skills

- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Knowledge of copyright and intellectual property law.
- Proficiency in library automation systems and databases.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
